British Women Are Choosing Pre Nuptial Agreements.

Wolstenholmes Family Law Solicitors find Pre Nuptial agreements are on the increase in Manchester, as wealthy wives seek to protect their assets.

A prenuptial or premarital agreement is a contract entered into before marriage, outlining the division of assets. Prenuptial agreements are not recognised by law in the UK. However the tide is turning, as this year a landmark case at the High Court in London recognised the German Heiress Katrin Radmacher's right to keep her fortune, based on the prenuptial with her husband. This could have an effect on the behaviour of others contesting divorce.

Katie Price and Peter Andre are currently bashing out the intricacies of their prenuptial. Hugh Hefner's ex wife Kimberly Conrad is suing her ex husband for reneging on their pre marital agreement. However Prenuptial Agreements are not solely for Porn Stars or the rich and famous. A recent survey by Wolstenholmes solicitors found that over half of British people (56%) yet to be married, would consider a prenuptial agreement.

Family Law Solicitor at Wolstenholmes, Kirsty Bowers, said:

“We are seeing a rise in the number of Pre Nuptial agreements instigated by women. Recent events in the press where we see celebrities contesting divorce, are encouraging financially independent women to think about how best to protect their assets.”

A, perhaps unromantic trend that started in America, is gaining impetus this side of the pond, as high profile women and mothers are influencing the decisions of British women. It is important to note that the Divorce Courts have the final say in the division of assets and child responsibility. Kirsty summarises the benefits to a pre nup as follows:

“They are increasingly taken into consideration by the courts and can help to avoid the risk of a major loss of assets, income, or a family business in the event of a divorce. If you are marrying for a second or third time, they are of particular benefit if the previous marriage resulted in children.”

Established in 1818, Wolstenholmes has been providing legal expertise for private and commercial clients for almost two centuries. The firm today provides legal services to clients with local, regional, national and international operation. To speak to specialist Family Law Solicitors call us direct on 0800 8620319.

Need A Divorce Launches Calculator

Wolstenholmes Solicitors LLP has announced the launch of an innovative divorce calculator that allows anybody facing marital breakdown to assess the likely cost of divorce using a simple online tool. The new divorce calculator can be accessed at www.needadivorce.co.uk.

The divorce calculator asks people a few simple questions regarding their divorce and the value of any assets they may have, before delivering a competitive quote based on the information provided.

‘The breakdown of a relationship is a traumatic time and our divorce solicitors have found that people are often anxious about the prospect of large and ongoing legal fees.’ explains Kirsty Bowers, one of the divorce solicitors at Wolstenholmes and Head of the Family Law Team. ‘We came up with the idea of the divorce calculator to give people a quick and simple way of receiving an estimate for how much our divorce solicitors would charge. This divorce calculator can offer some peace of mind during what is always a busy and stressful period.’

With nearly 200 years of experience in the law, Wolstenholmes is one of the oldest and most respected law firms in the UK. The Family Law team is made up of expert divorce solicitors with years of experience in dealing with marital and relationship breakdowns.
